Correction: The satellite-tagged HH (known as River) disappeared some time ago but its tag suddenly started working again and it was found shot dead on Ilton Moor (Swinton Estate). A gamekeeper on this same estate was found guilty a couple of years ago of using a barbaric pole trap, a device which has been illegal for over 100 years.

They won't last long, Paul. I see a satellite-tagged Hen Harrier disappeared on the Swinton Estate recently.

For Eric Lambley: All butterflies (except maybe the whites) fade as they age. Painted Ladies, being long-distance migrants, probably fade more than most.

While walking around Ripon wetlands I saw a number of butterflies that seem to resemble painted ladys but were remarkably pale and not vibrant in colour, is it normal for them to fade? I can share a photo if reqd.

Nightjars still present and active at Stainburn Moor. Following on from last month's field trip, I returned yesterday evening with a couple of friends. "Churring" began shortly after 10pm and we had several good views of birds on the wing.

Earlier this week my wife, who is in no sense a birder but can recognize red kite and buzzard, reported seeing "a huge bird of prey" in Crimple Valley. Your guess is as good as mine!
